Hiking Trails

Open Sky Zion is located on the edge of Zion National Park, bordered by neighboring towns St. George, UT (32 miles away), and Hurricane, UT (14 miles away).

The main west entrance to Zion is 15 miles from Open Sky, or 25 minutes of driving. Open Sky Zion is unique in that it remotely borders the far west side of Zion National Park.

Mountain Biking

The Whole Guacamole Bike Trail, located on BLM land, offers mountain bikers a diverse and scenic experience. Just past Open Sky Zion at the top of the mesa where Dalton Wash Road ends, this trail features a mix of slickrock and singletrack paths, weaving through piñon and juniper woodlands.

With its varied terrain, the trail caters to intermediate riders, with certain sections presenting advanced technical challenges. Notably, e-bikes are not permitted on this trail. Riders are rewarded with stunning vistas of Zion's West Temple and Mount Kinesava. However, navigation can be tricky; it's essential to follow the cairns marking the route.

The trail spans approximately 9.8 miles, with an average completion time of about 3 hours and 21 minutes. Before setting out, ensure the trail is dry, as wet conditions can make certain sections hazardous. Always check current trail conditions and adhere to local guidelines to protect this beautiful area.

Rock Climbing

4-wheel drive is not required to get to Open Sky Zion. The route to Open Sky Zion is paved highway with the exception of 3.5 miles of improved dirt road, Dalton Wash Road. This road takes you off the beaten path while winding up a beautiful canyon and is maintained by Washington County Road Department. Depending on weather and usage, it can be quite washboarded at times. If you take it slow, no matter the road’s condition, we promise you’ll enjoy some gorgeous scenery driving in. We do recommend keeping an eye on regional weather conditions. The outdoors can be rugged in the Zion region and we are experiencing drought conditions. Exceptionally  heavy rainfall can cause the roads to be slippery or wash out. If you visit during the winter season the road can be icy and snowy at times.
