Low Impact Stewardship
At Open Sky Zion, stewardship means more than appreciating the natural beauty of Zion National Park—it means actively preserving it. Our ‘Low Impact’ philosophy, supported by off-the-grid solutions, aligns our retreat with sustainable practices that protect the environment. From the use of eco-friendly materials in construction to implementing best practices for laundry and housekeeping, we strive to minimize our footprint. By limiting occupancy, we offer guests a peaceful, uncrowded experience that honors the landscape and helps maintain the splendor of Zion for future generations.
Dark Sky Initiative
The Dark Sky Approved Lodging program was established by DarkSky International, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving and protecting our night skies. Their mission focuses on promoting responsible outdoor lighting and supporting places where visitors can experience the wonders of a truly star-filled night. This certification recognizes accommodations that offer exceptional dark sky experiences, where guests can marvel at the Milky Way—a rare sight for much of the world’s population.
At Open Sky Zion, we are in the process of applying for this Dark Sky Approved Lodging Certification. Our secluded property is located in an area renowned for its outstanding night sky, which we are committed to preserving for both our guests and the environment. Achieving certification involves careful attention to various aspects, including creating a dark sky-friendly lighting plan, identifying local species affected by light pollution, conducting periodic re-evaluations, and educating our staff and guests on dark sky conservation.
This initiative aligns perfectly with our dedication to environmental sustainability and stewardship of the land. We’re proud to join the efforts of our nearby community in Springdale, the gateway to Zion National Park, and our neighbors at Under Canvas Zion, who have both achieved Dark Sky certification. We look forward to contributing to the Greater Zion community’s commitment to protecting our natural night skies.
